– HP’s latest business laptop Is the EliteBook 840 Generation 7. It’s a snazzy, ultra portable laptop That weighs less than three pounds. It’s super easy to carry around, And it’s got most of the
features that IT departments And business executives
and users really need. Let’s start with the webcam. No, it’s not the absolute
best image quality That you’ll get from a webcam, But it does have a nifty privacy shutter, Which is great for peace of mind When you’re on video calls all day long, And you want to make sure That no one sees anything
that they shouldn’t. The keyboard and the touch pad On the EliteBook 840 series Are also improved, compared
to the previous generation. I think the typing is very comfortable, And the clicking on the
pad is very satisfying And it makes a ”thud”
sound when you click. Other options for logging
into your Windows account On the EliteBook 840
are a fingerprint reader And infrared sensors on the webcam, Both of which are optional
extras on our review unit, Which costs around about $2,100 For the list price. Now, as you’d expect, There are a ton of configuration options With the EliteBook. You get quite a few ports, And you also get an optional LTE modem That works with this SIM
card slot right here, Or an eSIM from either AT&T or Verizon.
I appreciate that there’s
a full-size HDMI output On the EliteBook 840, Which makes plugging
into a television at home Or a conference room
AV system a lot easier. Overall, the HP EliteBook 840 series Is a great laptop for IT departments That have lots of security
and manageability concerns, And it’s very comfortable and easy to use For business executives or users as well. It’s not our absolute favorite
business laptop, though. That honor, along with
our editor’s choice award, Belongs to the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, Which has almost all of the
features that this one does, But comes in a slightly
smaller and sleeker And very traditional black chassis That we tend to prefer. One of the best parts
about the HP EliteBook 840 Is its very long battery life. I tested this machine at more
than 19 hours of battery life, Playing a video nonstop
before the battery died. That’s plenty long enough
for a full day of work. And if you’re like most people, You might use your business
laptop in the evening For watching videos or
listening to music as well, And it will probably get
you through that as well.
